Time reversal acoustics method and apparatus for detecting changes in environments
DWPI Title: Method for detecting change in environment using time reversal acoustics, involves outputting indication that there is change in the environment upon determining that there has been change
Abstract: A method for detecting a change in an environment is disclosed. The method includes forming a test acoustic signal based on time-reversal of a baseline acoustic signal after the baseline acoustic signal has traversed the environment while the environment is in a baseline condition. The method also includes detecting the test acoustic signal after the test acoustic signal has traversed the environment while the environment is in an unknown condition. The method includes determining whether there has been a change in the environment by comparing the baseline acoustic signal with the detected test acoustic signal after the test acoustic signal has traversed the environment while the environment is in the unknown condition.
Use: Method for detecting a change in an environment using time reversal acoustics to identify changes in areas, systems, objects, devices, and other subjects of interest where monitoring changes is desired.
Advantage: The method enables detecting unauthorized access and/or can verifying integrity of monitored items are often deployed on an individual basis, and detecting an alteration in the environment in less time and higher accuracy, such as color-indicating reactions, optical scanning, loop seals, pressure adhesives, unique markings, and alarms.
Novelty: The method involves detecting a test acoustic signal (150) after the test acoustic signal has traversed environment while the environment is in an unknown condition. Correlation of a baseline acoustic signal with the detected test acoustic signal is determined after the test acoustic signal has traversed the environment while the environment is in the unknown condition. Determination is made to check whether there is a change in the environment by comparing the determined correlation with a correlation of the baseline acoustic signal with the detected test acoustic signal after the test acoustic signal has traversed the environment while the environment is in the baseline condition. An indication that there has been a change in the environment upon determining that there has been a change in the environment is output.
