Magnetic field falling particle solar receiver systems and methods
DWPI Title: Falling particle solar receiver for use in e.g. concentrating solar power system, has inlet allowing particles to enter and fall through interior space, and generating component to induce magnetic field upon particles falling through space
Abstract: Systems and methods that increase the residence time of particles falling through a solar receiver using an induced magnetic field to suspend or slow down and/or alter the flight path of the particles falling through the concentrated beam of sunlight are disclosed.
Use: Falling particle solar receiver for use in a solar power system e.g. concentrating solar power system.
Advantage: The receiver efficiently captures solar energy by heating particles for energy conversion, storage, and thermal processes. The receiver improves particle flow stabilization and/or increases particle residence time in the falling particle receivers.
Novelty: The receiver (14) has a receiver body (24) comprising walls defining an interior space. A window (26) is arranged in the receiver body for allowing concentrated solar energy to enter the interior space. An inlet allows particles to enter and fall through the interior space. A magnetic field generating component e.g. magnetic field generator, is configured to induce a magnetic field upon the particles falling through the interior space. The magnetic field generating component is positioned above the window. Permanent magnets are arranged on walls defining the interior space.
