Continuous full-resolution two-color infrared detector
DWPI Title: Apparatus for detecting infrared radiation used in navigation and surveillance fields, has detector pixels having semiconductor portion, first sub-pattern of nanoantenna elements of first size arranged on semiconductor portion of each of detector pixels, and second sub-pattern of nanoantenna element
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for nanoantenna-enhanced detection of infrared radiation. The apparatus includes one or more detector pixels. A plurality of detector pixels can constitute a focal plane array (FPA). Each detector pixel carries at least a first and a second subpattern of nanoantenna elements, with elements of the second subpattern interpolated between elements of the first subpattern. Each detector pixel also includes separate collection electrodes for collecting photogenerated current from the respective subpatterns.
Use: Apparatus for detecting infrared radiation used in navigation and surveillance fields.
Advantage: The apparatus collects both colors concurrently with little or no spatial fill-factor loss, improves efficiency, lower crosstalk and more accurate registration, and reduces dark current relative to conventional detectors.
Novelty: Apparatus has detector pixels having a semiconductor portion. A first sub-pattern of nanoantenna elements of a first size is arranged on the semiconductor portion of each of the detector pixels. A second sub-pattern of nanoantenna elements of a second size unequal to the first size is arranged on the semiconductor portion of each of the detector pixels and interpolated laterally in nanoantenna elements of the first sub-pattern. A first collection electrode collects photogenerated current from the first sub-pattern on each of the detector pixels. A second collection electrode collects photogenerated current from the second sub-pattern on each of the detector pixels.
