Computed tomography approach to edge reconstruction

DWPI Title: Method for reconstructing boundaries from computed tomography image dataset to process X-ray tomography images, involves clipping numerical derivative values to specified range, and reconstructing X-ray image according to image filters and derivative values
Abstract: A computer-implemented method of reconstructing boundaries from a computed tomography (CT) image dataset is provided. The method comprises receiving CT image data and applying a number of image filters to the CT image data. A numerical derivative is applied to the filtered CT image data to flatten and suppress non-edge regions that do not correspond to edges. Numerical derivative values are clipped to a specified range to reduce artifacts and noise, and an X-ray image is reconstructed according to the image filters and clipped numerical derivative values.
Use: Method for reconstructing boundaries from computed tomography (CT) image dataset to process X-ray tomography images.
Advantage: The method enables applying the numerical derivative to the filtered CT image data to flatten and suppress the non-edge regions that not correspond to the interface edges, and clipping numerical derivative values to the specified range to reduce artifacts and noise.
Novelty: The method involves receiving computed tomography (CT) image data (102) by utilizing processors (152). Number of image filters (116) is applied to the CT image data. Numerical derivative (118) is applied to the filtered CT image data to flatten and suppress non-edge regions (128) that not correspond to interface edges (124). Numerical derivative values are clipped to specified range to reduce artifacts and noise. An X-ray image (122) is reconstructed according to the image filters and clipped numerical derivative values.
