Cation-enhanced chemical stability of ion-conducting zirconium-based ceramics

DWPI Title: Ion-conducting zirconium-based ceramic used for coating processes, has hafnium that partially substitutes zirconium in specified chemical composition of ceramic which includes sodium, zirconium, phosphorus, silicon, and oxide
Abstract: At least partial substitution of zirconium by hafnium in ion-conducting zirconium-based ceramics provides enhanced chemical stability in alkaline and acid environments.
Use: Ion-conducting zirconium-based ceramic used for coating processes.
Advantage: The ion-conducting zirconium-based ceramic is enabled to be applied as a protective layer to other ion-conducting materials that may be susceptible to other mechanisms of degradation. The ion-conducting zirconium-based ceramic is used as an ion-conducting thin film protective shield on other, more vulnerable materials.
Novelty: The ion-conducting zirconium-based ceramic includes hafnium that partially substitutes zirconium in a specified chemical composition which includes sodium, zirconium, phosphorus, silicon, and oxide. The zirconium-based ceramic further includes lithium, and lanthanum. The ion-conducting zirconium-based ceramic is coated onto another ion-conducting material.
