Intertial sensor that includes fluids

DWPI Title: Inertial sensor system for measuring acceleration of automobile, has sensor apparatus including sensor that is adapted to output data that is platform acceleration indicative, where data is interface location representative between fluids
Abstract: A sensor system described herein includes a container having a first end and a second end that is opposite the first end. The container includes a first fluid adjacent to the first end of the container and a second fluid that is adjacent to the second end of the container. A third fluid, having a density greater than the first and second fluids, separates the first and second fluids within the container. The sensor system also includes a sensor apparatus that is adapted to output data that is indicative of acceleration of a platform that includes the sensor system, where the data is representative of at least one of: 1) location of an interface between the first fluid and the third fluid in the container; or 2) pressure at the first end of the container caused by compression of the first fluid by the third fluid.
Use: Inertial sensor system for measuring an acceleration of a platform e.g. automobile, mobile telephone, aerial vehicle and/or video game controller (all claimed), in a construction environment i.e. building deconstruction settings.
Advantage: The system utilizes an accelerometer that exhibits different benefits over other accelerometers, including relatively low cost to manufacture due to lack of requirement of forming proof mass of precise size and shape, thus forming springs of precise dimensions. The system can be formed the accelerometer and/or a gyroscope through semiconductor processing processes and can be characterized as micro electromechanical systems.
Novelty: The system has a container (102) including a first end (104) and a second end (106) that is opposite the first end, where the container comprises first fluid (112) that is adjacent to the first end of the container, second fluid (114) that is adjacent to the second end of the container, third fluid (116) that is positioned between the first fluid and the second fluid, density of the third fluid is greater than densities of the first fluid and the second fluid and the first fluid is separated from the second fluid in the container by the third fluid. A transparent sidewall is arranged along length of the container. A sensor apparatus includes an optical sensor that is adapted to output data that is indicative of acceleration of a platform that includes the system, where the data is representative of a location of an interface between the first fluid and the third fluid in the container.
