Microfluidic microarray systems and methods thereof

DWPI Title: Microfluidic microarray system for detecting biomolecules from viruses, bacteria, plants, algae and eukaryotes, comprises manifold with via holes in fluid communication with microfluidic chip having a microarray, illuminator, and detector
Abstract: Disclosed are systems that include a manifold in fluid communication with a microfluidic chip having a microarray, an illuminator, and a detector in optical communication with the microarray. Methods for using these systems for biological detection are also disclosed.
Use: The system is used for biological detection (claimed). It is particularly used for sensing biomolecules (gene sequences, and proteins) from viruses, bacteria, plants, algae and eukaryotes (mammalian cells).
Advantage: The system enables detection of microarray probes deposited on the microarray surface in parallel and in real-time. It provides a compact platform for detection applications.
Novelty: A microfluidic microarray system comprising a manifold comprising via holes in fluid communication with microchannels disposed on a microfluidic chip, where the microfluidic chip comprises a microarray, is capable of transmitting light to the microarray, and is secured to the manifold; illuminator for providing the light; and detector in optical communication with the microarray, is new.
