Photonic-powered cable assembly
DWPI Title: Photonic-powered cable assembly has power source cable connector (PSCC) which has second feedback controller that controls data transmission over optical transmit data path between local device and remote device
Abstract: A photonic-cable assembly includes a power source cable connector (“PSCC”) coupled to a power receive cable connector (“PRCC”) via a fiber cable. The PSCC electrically connects to a first electronic device and houses a photonic power source and an optical data transmitter. The fiber cable includes an optical transmit data path coupled to the optical data transmitter, an optical power path coupled to the photonic power source, and an optical feedback path coupled to provide feedback control to the photonic power source. The PRCC electrically connects to a second electronic device and houses an optical data receiver coupled to the optical transmit data path, a feedback controller coupled to the optical feedback path to control the photonic power source, and a photonic power converter coupled to the optical power path to convert photonic energy received over the optical power path to electrical energy to power components of the PRCC.
Use: Photonic-powered cable assembly for a photonic-powered cable system (claimed). Uses include but are not limited to photonic power devices, microelectromechanical systems, vacuums, pressure pumps, rotational or linear shaft actuators, and sensors.
Advantage: The multifiber cable has no metallic conductor paths to provide total electrical isolation between the local device and the remote device, which is well suited for safety critical or mission critical applications. The cable assembly provides enhanced electrical isolation, improved electromagnetic noise rejection, and greater operational distance or bandwidth.
Novelty: The cable assembly (200) has a PSCC (205) that connects with a local device (220), and has a photonic power source (230) and an optical data transmitter. A fiber cable (215) is coupled to the PSCC and to a power receive cable connector (PRCC) (210) which connects to a remote device (225). The PRCC has an optical data receiver, a first feedback controller, and a photonic power converter. The PSCC has a second feedback controller that controls data transmission over the optical transmit data path between the local device and the remote device.
