Precision disablement aiming system
DWPI Title: System e.g. precision disablement aiming system for adjusting aim of disabler, has disrupter that emits disruptive element along projection axis and that is positioned such that disruptive element impacts proximal side of target
Abstract: A disrupter to a target may be precisely aimed by positioning a radiation source to direct radiation towards the target, and a detector is positioned to detect radiation that passes through the target. An aiming device is positioned between the radiation source and the target, wherein a mechanical feature of the aiming device is superimposed on the target in a captured radiographic image. The location of the aiming device in the radiographic image is used to aim a disrupter towards the target.
Use: System e.g. precision disablement aiming system for adjusting aim of disabler with respect to a target such as explosive device e.g. improvised explosive device (IED).
Advantage: In the second radiographic image the movement of the target object, the aiming device, or the radiation source can cause the aim points to be closely aligned, thus allows the analyst to have increased confidence when causing the disrupter to emit a projectile.
Novelty: The system (100) has a radiation source (102) that emits radiation towards proximal side (104) of target (106). An imager (114) generates a radiographic image and a disrupter (118) emits a disruptive element along projection axis. The disrupter element impacts proximal side of the target. An aiming device (120) is between radiation source and target in which radiographic image comprises target and aim point. The aim point is a mechanical feature of the aiming device. Disrupter is aligned such that the projection axis intersects the target at location that corresponds to aim point.
