Miniaturized photoacoustic spectrometer

DWPI Title: Photoacoustic spectroscopy system has optical fiber which directs light to sample chamber, and optical component which detects or transmits light pattern from light incident on microphone membrane
Abstract: A low-power miniaturized photoacoustic sensor uses an optical microphone made by semiconductor fabrication techniques, and optionally allows for all-optical communication to and from the sensor. This allows integration of the photoacoustic sensor into systems with special requirements, such as those that would be reactive in an electrical discharge condition. The photoacoustic sensor can also be operated in various other modes with wide application flexibility.
Use: Photoacoustic spectroscopy system.
Advantage: Facilitates the detection and/or transmittal of diffracted light pattern since the photodetector detects the diffracted light pattern. Reduces the possible system noise since the sensor can be modulated at a higher frequency and filtered to remove the unwanted noise sources.
Novelty: The photoacoustic spectroscopy system has photoacoustic sensor (100) which includes a sample chamber (105) which is a cavity in a hollow polygonal prism with a microphone component coupled to and encloses a bottom end of the cavity. An optical fiber (112) is in optical communication with the sample chamber, and a microphone (115) is comprised of membrane in acoustic communication with the sample chamber. The optical fiber directs light to the sample chamber, and an optical component detects or transmits a light pattern from light incident on the microphone membrane.
