Support system, excavation arrangement, and process of supporting an object
DWPI Title: Support system for use in excavation arrangement, has camming mechanism positioned below weight-bearing device, and cables connected to camming mechanism to apply force to camming mechanism to engage camming mechanism to opposing surfaces
Abstract: A support system, an excavation arrangement, and a process of supporting an object are disclosed. The support system includes a weight-bearing device and a camming mechanism positioned below the weight-bearing device. A downward force on the weight-bearing device at least partially secures the camming mechanism to opposing surfaces. The excavation arrangement includes a borehole, a support system positioned within and secured to the borehole, and an object positioned on and supported by the support system. The process includes positioning and securing the support system and positioning the object on the weight-bearing device.
Use: Support system for use in an excavation arrangement (claimed) for storage of radioactive waste.
Advantage: The excavation arrangement includes any suitable structural features for stability and durability to provide a high level of assurance that the objects i.e. waste canisters, positioned in the borehole positioned at desired depth without becoming stuck during positioning. The system allows a conductor to provide a flow conduit and prevent surface rubble from falling in the excavation arrangement, while drilling the surface casing.
Novelty: The system (102) has a camming mechanism positioned below a weight-bearing device. Downward force on the weight-bearing device partially secures the camming mechanism to opposing surfaces (108). Cables are directly or indirectly connected to the camming mechanism operable to apply a force to the camming mechanism to engage the camming mechanism to the opposing surfaces. The opposing surfaces are a wall of a cylindrical borehole (110) and a portion of an excavation. An actuation feature adjusts the camming mechanism from a disengaged configuration to an engaging configuration.
