Neutron detection apparatus and method

DWPI Title: Neutron detection apparatus comprises sensor medium containing borazine-based polymer juxtaposed to and in electrical contact with electrode arrangement conformed to collect radiation-generated charge directly from sensor medium
Abstract: An apparatus for neutron detection is provided. The apparatus comprises a sensor medium in electrical contact with an electrode arrangement conformed to collect radiation-generated charge from the sensor medium. The sensor medium comprises a borazine and/or a borazine-based polymer.
Use: A neutron detection apparatus.
Advantage: The apparatus exhibits low-capacitance coupling to electronic detection circuitry and charge-generation dynamics that do not require avalanche or gain mechanisms to produce detectable signals. These features can lead to improved resolution in the detection of particles having high enough specific energy deposition. In addition, the apparatus allows for dual-mode detection, where both photons and electrons generated by the particle interactions are collected and detected.
Novelty: A neutron detection apparatus comprises sensor medium juxtaposed to and in electrical contact with electrode arrangement conformed to collect radiation-generated charge directly from sensor medium, where sensor medium consists essentially of borazine-based polymer containing substituted borazine monomers.
