Methods utilizing durable functional materials for chemical processes that include an oxidation step

DWPI Title: Utilizing durable functional material for chemical processes such that oxidation, involves contacting redox active oxygen carrier material with fluid stream to reduce redox active metal oxide in redox active oxygen carrier material
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to methods using durable functional materials for processes that include an oxidation step. The durable functional materials are redox active oxygen carrier materials that include a zirconia or yttria-stabilized-zirconia (YSZ) matrix containing a redox-active metal ion(s), such as, but not limited to Fe, Mn, Cu, Co and Cr. In an embodiment, these materials are used in chemical looping processes.
Use: Method for utilizing durable functional material for chemical processes such that oxidation.
Advantage: The method enables to utilize durable functional material that improves sinter resistance, agglomeration resistance and stability.
Novelty: Utilizing durable functional material involves contacting redox active oxygen carrier material with fluid stream to reduce redox active metal oxide in redox active oxygen carrier material and oxidizing component in fluid stream. The redox active oxygen carrier material is contacted with second fluid stream to oxidize reduced redox active metal. The redox active oxygen carrier material comprises redox active metal ion which is atomically dispersed in zirconia or yttria-stabilized zirconia matrix.
