| Abstract: A controller for an electric power storage device is described herein, wherein the electric power storage device is included in a microgrid. The electric power storage device has at least one of a charge rate, a discharge rate, or a power retention capacity that has been customized for a collective microgrid. The at least one of the charge rate, the discharge rate, or the power retention capacity of the electric power storage device is computed based at least in part upon specified power source parameters in the at least two connected microgrids and specified load parameters in the at least two connected microgrids. |

| Advantage: The tool can output data that indicates that another power source is needed to meet the performance demands and to ensure stability of the collective microgrid. The data allows for the designer of the collective microgrid to customize the collective microgrid potentially with the customized electric power storage device to allow for optimal performance and stability. The networked microgrids have the potential to overcome the problem with spatial distribution which can minimize effects of clouds or lack of local wind. |
| Novelty: The microgrid system has a controller that comprises a control algorithm comprises a customized profile for parameter of an electric power storage device included in the microgrid system. The parameter is one of electric power storage capacity, charge rate or discharge rate. The control algorithm dynamically controls the parameter during microgrid operation. The parameter conforms to a stability constraint defined for the microgrid system. The parameter adjusts to bring the electric power storage device into conformity. The electric power storage device is inserted into the microgrid system which comprises connected microgrids. The electric power storage capacity, charge rate or discharge rate of the electric power storage device is controlled based upon specified power source parameters in the connected microgrids and specified load parameters in the connected microgrids. |
