Multilayer gasket

DWPI Title: Multi-layer flat seal e.g. cylinder head gasket for IC engine, has separate coupling element fitting through openings in at least 2 seal layers for coupling them together
Abstract: In order to provide a multilayer gasket, which comprises at least one first layer and one second layer and at least one joining device for joining the layers of the gasket to one another and in which the layers of the gasket are joined to one another in a simple and reliable manner, it is proposed that the joining device comprises at least two through-holes in the first layer, at least one through-opening in the second layer and a joining element constructed separately from the first layer and the second layer, wherein the joining element penetrates the through-openings of the first layer and the through-opening of the second layer and engages behind a retention region of the second layer in such a way that the first layer, the second layer and the joining element are form locked, preventing them from moving apart from one another.
Use: The multi-layer flat seal can be used as a cylinder head gasket, fitting between the engine block and the cylinder head of an IC engine.
Advantage: Simple connection between individual layers of seal.
Novelty: The seal (100) has at least one coupling device for connecting at least 2 seal layers (102,104) together, provided by at least 2 openings in the first seal layer, at least one opening (136) in the second seal layer and a separate coupling element (148) fitting through these openings for preventing relative movement between the seal layers.
