Two-fluid hydrodynamic printing
DWPI Title: Liquid jet apparatus for two-fluid hydrodynamic printing of electronic features on substrates in laboratory environment, has coaxial tube assembly whose annular outer tube flows sheath fluid through inner tube
Abstract: Hydrodynamic focusing of two fluid steams provides a novel micro printing technology for printed electronics and other high performance applications.
Use: Liquid jet apparatus for two-fluid hydrodynamic printing of electronic features on substrates in a laboratory environment.
Advantage: The apparatus allows fluid flow models to suggest that less than 81% of the sheath fluid is removed without affecting print stream. The apparatus enhances focusing effect by flowing two fluid streams through a converging focusing nozzle.
Novelty: The apparatus has a coaxial tube assembly comprising an inner tube including an exit orifice for flowing ink stream through the inner tube and an annular outer tube for flowing sheath fluid through the inner tube, where the sheath fluid includes higher velocity than ink stream such that the ink stream is hydrodynamically focused by outer sheath fluid upon exiting from the exit orifice of the inner tube. A removing element removes the sheath fluid from ink stream downstream from the exit orifice of the inner tube.
