Degradation of chemical agents using metal-organic framework compositions

DWPI Title: Catalytically degrading chemical agent by combining metal-organic framework composition having metal clusters and ligands coordinating with metal clusters with chemical agent and non-aqueous solvent and determining rate of decomposition of the chemical agent
Abstract: The present invention relates to a metal-organic framework composition, as well as constructs and methods thereof. In one particular example, the composition is employed to degrade a chemical agent in a non-aqueous environment.
Use: The method is useful for: catalytically degrading chemical agent; and treating contaminated article (claimed).
Advantage: The method utilizes the metal-organic framework that promotes degradation of chemical agents.
Novelty: Catalytically degrading (M1) chemical agent, comprises: providing a metal-organic framework composition comprising many metal clusters and many ligands coordinating with the metal clusters, where the metal of each metal cluster comprises at least one rare earth metal ion and each of the ligand comprises a 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid (DOBDC) linker; combining the metal-organic framework composition with the chemical agent and a non-aqueous solvent; and determining a rate of decomposition of the chemical agent.
