Friction testing and torque sensing systems
DWPI Title: System for characterizing force e.g. friction, wear, and torque, has load arm whose distal end is arranged in proximity to sample holder, and stage that is configured to position and/or move mount plate
Abstract: The present invention relates, in part, to systems for characterizing force (e.g., friction, wear, and/or torque). In one embodiment, the system allows for wear testing of samples in a high throughput manner. In another embodiment, the system allows for torque sensing in a non-contact manner.
Use: System for characterizing force.
Advantage: The system allows for wear testing of samples in a high throughput manner, and allows for torque sensing in a non-contact manner.
Novelty: The system has a set of testers, where each tester has a load arm with proximal and distal ends. A ball holder or pin holder is arranged on the distal end of the load arm (10A-10D), and a joint is arranged at the proximal end. A load cell is attached to the joint, where a mount plate has sample holders. The distal and proximal ends are disposed in proximity to the sample holders respectively. A stage is configured to position and/or move the mount plate.
