Fluid-infused elastomers
DWPI Title: Materials used in geothermal technologies, comprises elastomer infused with fluid, where elastomer is fluorocarbon, hydrocarbon, fluorosilicone and silicone-based elastomers, and fluid is halocarbon of fluorocarbon, chloro carbon and bromo carbon-based oils
Abstract: The present invention relates to fluid-infused elastomers that outperform their non-infused base elastomer in harsh environmental conditions. These fluid-infused polymers may be used in applications including geothermal technologies where the oil-infused elastomers may be subject to harsh conditions.
Use: Materials used in geothermal technologies of sustainable energy, automotive, aerospace, industrial and medical equipment.
Advantage: The materials provides elastomers has increases reliability, durability, and life extension in harsh environments, such as down-hole drilling environments, has potential to decrease the coefficient of friction, high-performance elastomers, reduces operational costs by extending the lifetime and thermally stable fluids, has enhances material performance and reliability over their polymers that are not fluid-infused.
Novelty: Materials comprises elastomer infused with 0-50 wt.% fluid, where elastomer is fluorocarbon, hydrocarbon, fluorosilicone and silicone-based elastomers and fluid is halocarbon of fluorocarbon, chloro carbon and bromo carbon-based oils. The fluid is chemically inert with elastomer. The material has thickness and where the fluid is infused to depth greater than the surface up to and including to depth of 10 % of the thickness of the material.
